New Additions to the MN State Fair Food Canon
Ahhh, August, when our thoughts turn to state fairs and their attendant foods. The Minnesota State Fair opens this Thursday, and already there are reports out about this year's new, mindbendingly caloric dishes. ![]()

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reports on the creation of a pot roast sundae--mashed potatoes covered in pot roast, gravy, corn, and a cherry tomato. (Uh, that sounds amazing.) Other newcomers include a "fry dog," that's a french-fry encrusted, deep-fried hot dog on a stick, and the "nacho mama dog," Tex-Mex-seasoned beef, battered, deep-fried, coated in cheese, and other nacho fixings.
There will also be a "Moo Booth," where you can learn to milk a cow and participate in butter-carving competitions. Eating your creation afterward is optional, one assumes.
