The Early Word: Tripie Crepe Cart

A savory crepe with cheese, fried egg, and mushrooms

Tripie Crepe Cart launched earlier this summer up at Columbus Circle, but, as reported by Midtown Lunch, was harassed by an overzealous police sergeant and forced to move down to Astor Place.

The small cart offers some unorthodox (and amazing) crepe fillings, like guacamole or Milky Way bits. Plus, they turn out crepes until 3 a.m., making it an excellent post-bar stop. Today, Fork in the Road checked out the cheese, fried egg, and mushroom crepe. We like the salty-sweet effect of savory crepes--the slightly sweet crepe against the cheese. Sure, it's junky shredded cheddar, but it does the job. We'll be back for guacamole. Each crepe is $5, plus a free drink.
