The New Amsterdam Market will return to South Street Seaport on Sunday, September 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The open-air market, which was last held in June 2008 (its first appearance was in October 2005), will be open one Sunday a month through the end of the year. The market, which is the brainchild of Robert LaValva, has drawn legions of food fiends in the past, thanks to a roster of vendors including Saxelby Cheesemongers, Marlow & Sons, Sullivan Street Bakery, and a score of local farmers. Originally designed to recreate the 19th-century public market, New Amsterdam will inaugurate its new season, fittingly, on Harbor Day, which celebrates the 400th  anniversary of Henry Hudson's trip across the Atlantic.
