Under the Toque: Michael Schaefer Leaves Mermaid Inn; John Schaefer Sues Irving Mill
Douglas Rodriguez, who was beat out by Anita Lo on Top Chef Masters, is no longer affiliated with the Flatiron project, Nuela, which has been in the works for some time. Rodriguez said he left due to "creative differences," and is rumored to be in talks with Drew Nieporent.

Matthew Schaefer, who has been cooking at the Mermaid Inn's East Village location for the past five months since leaving Bussaco, has left the restaurant. Owner Danny Abrams said Schaefer "wasn't the right fit for the Mermaid" is currently looking for a replacement.

John Schaefer, Ryan Skeen's predecessor at Irving Mill, is suing the restaurant for firing him without cause, saying the owners failed to pay him outstanding paychecks, used the restaurant's bank account for personal expenses, and threatened to expose his drinking problem. The owners are counter suing.

Promoter Jon B, who opened GreenHouse, touted as the first "green" club, has allegedly been in talks with chef Todd English about doing a restaurant in Chelsea.
