A Non-Cookbook Fall Food Book Preview

Eat Me Daily has unfurled its comprehensive Fall 2009 non-cookbook preview. Books editor Helen Rosner has chosen 13 titles she considers worth a read; while cookbooks, as EMD points out, do constitute most of the autumn deluge, memoirs, single-subject paeans, and classics like the re-issued 1938 Larousse Gastronomique also offer plenty of diversion. The New York-centric will be particularly excited for the arrival of David Sax's Save the Deli, anthologies from both The New Yorker and New York Times, Julie Powell's new memoir, Cleaving, and William Grimes's Appetite City: A Culinary History of New York. The latter in particular promises to be a boon to those obsessed with the city's dining establishment, and Grimes, the Times' former restaurant critic, will no doubt serve as an excellent guide.
