Anticipating the Purgatorial Splendor of Next Week's CB3 Meeting

Reading Eater's re-cap of last night's Community Board 2 meeting puts one in a state of anticipation about a few things: the Denton brothers' use of the former Frederick's Downtown space for their newest project, cors'ino; the next incarnation of the Cub Room space; and, of course, next Monday's Community Board 3 SLA & DCA Licensing Committee Meeting. As anyone who's ever attended one of these things can attest, they're a study in purgatorial angst, territorial posturing, and existential futility. Next week's meeting, which covers the East Village and Lower East Side, promises to be no exception. Fifty items are on the agenda, which means it will be a very long night, indeed. Kampuchea Noodle Bar and Allen & Delancey will both try their luck with full liquor license applications, as will Senor Izquierdaj, a new restaurant in the old Le Pere Pinard space.

The residential developments at 17 Orchard and 180 Orchard are apparently going to get some kind of eating or drinking establishments, as is the old Kelley & Peng space on the Bowery. And the Lower East Side is going to get its very own Meatball Shop, in the old Slurp space. Because, aside from a restaurant dedicated solely to the consumption of Quebecois cheese curds, that's exactly what the neighborhood needs: more drunk food to soak up the liquor consumed at all of the establishments whose licenses the boards have so painstakingly approved.
