Lovely Day to Re-Open in October

Buried in the long agenda for Community Board 2's upcoming October meetings is a renewal application to operate an unenclosed sidewalk cafe at 196 Elizabeth Street. That happens to be the address of Lovely Day, the quirky and much-loved Thai restaurant shuttered by fire last October. Although it began taking orders for delivery back in January and was supposed to open in May, its gate has remained locked. A call to Lovely Day was answered by none other than its owner, Kazusa Jibiki, who confirmed that the restaurant will indeed re-open, "sometime in October. We're just waiting for one more permit from the Building Department." So the countdown to hobo noodles and spicy green curry, en plein air, can begin now.
