Strange Snacks of the World: Jelly Rats

DSC07293v.jpg

Nummy, nummy! What could be better than gummi rats? Line them up to make your own rat pack, then eat them one-by-one. When you open the package, they fling off a weird fruity odor, something like tutti fruitti or melon, sickeningly sweet. Do they carry the bubonic plague, you wonder?

Jelly Rats are manufactured by Aroma AB, of Stockholm, Sweden. There are 34 per bag, and if you eat 10 of them, it'll set you back only 140 calories. The candy rodents are made with gelatin, of course, and the state of European animal rendering being what it is--these gooey treats might actually contain trace amounts of rat. Eat up!
