The Cute Food Movement: Cute Yummy Time

Categories: Featured

If you got an email with the subject line "Cute Yummy Time," would you open it? Curiosity won out over the delete button, which is how we have come to know about the Japanese "cute food movement," and a woman named La Carmina, who has a cookbook coming out called, yes, Cute Yummy Time.

This kind of cute food (or kawaii food) seems less about eating and more about, well, looking cute and feminine while cutting food into elaborate shapes and not eating. Recipes include singing crab bagel, party owl egg white quiche, flying birds panna cotta, and evil pumpkin soup. The book comes out on October 6th, but you can pre-order it now.

La Carmina also has a "gothic Lolita fashion blog" and also a blog that seems to be written from the point of view of her cat, Basil, in which La Carmina is referred to as "Mommy."

Here's La Carmina making piggy bread.
