Under the Toque: Another A16 Chef in Town; Hung of 'Top Chef' in at Ajna

Nate Appleman isn't the only ex-A16 chef in town. Christophe Hille, who was formerly in the kitchen at A16 and later was a private chef for Annie Leibovitz, is teaming up with another San Francisco chef, Nathan Foot, and designer Chris Ronis to open a retail shop and restaurant in the East Village with a farmhouse vibe.

The former Buddha Bar has been rechristened Ajna Bar, just nine months after losing a lawsuit to Buddha Bar Worldwide. It has also enlisted Hung Huynh, winner of Top Chef season three, to redesign the menu.

Gusto Ristorante has announced that Saul Montiel is back in the kitchen as head chef after a brief stint where Ryan Lowder was doing the menu. "The prodigal son has returned," said an official statement, and the menu is going back to "classic, old-fair Italiano."

Mario Batali is joining the roster of New York Wine and Food Festival events. He will be interviewed by Kim Severson at The Times Center on Saturday at 8 pm.
