Vegetarian Delights of NYC: Gutti Venkaya at Coconut Grove

For lovers of both peanut butter sandwiches and eggplant, there's gutti venkaya, a recipe associated with the high-tech city (and center for annoying phone call solicitations) Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, southeastern India. The peanut sauce is highly textured, though not chunky, while the diminutive Asian eggplant is sweet and without bitter juices. Eaten with either basmati rice or flaky, multilayer flatbreads called Ceylon parathas, the dish is a total delight. Find it at Coconut Grove, a new south Indian restaurant in Manhattan's Curry Hill. 106 Lexington Avenue, 212-686-0202
