Costco Takes Manhattan; Long Island Scallops Make a Comeback

iVillage has launched a new food site, ivillage.com/food, specifically targeted at "women on the go." The site will feature blogs, recipes, photos and video content, as well as content by Gail Simmons and restaurateur Donatella Arpaia.

Costco got its first Manhattan location on Thursday, located at the East River Plaza shopping mall in Harlem. The 105,000-square-foot space houses more than 3,500 different products, including a massive fresh-food department and a food court.

The baymen of Long Island's eastern shore started to see a resurgence of the Peconic Bay's scallop population last year, after years of devastating harvests due to toxic marine algae known as brown tide. Scientists have been working to rebuild the scallop population.

Burger King franchisees sued the fast food chain this week over a new $1 double cheeseburger promotion that isn't profitable and forces restaurant owners to sell the quarter-pound burger with at least a 10-cent loss.

Suntory Holdings, Japan's third largest brewer, has purchased European drinkmaker Orangina Schweppes, expanding outside a shrinking domestic market. Suntory is also in talks to merge with Japan's biggest brewer, Kirin, as the country's beer sales continue to fall.
