Kalustyan's: Now Even Bigger and Better

IMG_4849.JPG

Two weeks ago, Kalustyan's expanded into the space next door, which had formerly been occupied by a taxi dispatcher. The new addition, which almost doubles Kalustyan's size, is down a few steps from the original store, and is reached by a threshold carved into what used to be a floor-to-ceiling wall of spices.

The shelves in the annex are not yet entirely stocked, but its freezers are full of frozen Indian meals, naan, and other sundry items. So far, the shelves contain bags of snack food, spices, jarred chutneys and pickle, and silver table ware. If the effect of descending into the new space isn't quite Narnia-like, it's still somewhat magical to consider that what was once a cramped spice nook is now a portal into an even wider world of food.
