Last Year, 14.6 Percent of American Families Went Hungry

Just in time for Thanksgiving comes a report from the Agriculture Department stating that the percentage of families who "had difficulty providing enough food for all their members due to a lack of resources" rose from 11.1 percent in 2007 to 14.6 percent in 2008.

The report, titled "Household Food Security in the United States, 2008" found that this increase of four million households was, unsurprisingly, attributable to financial insecurity. The percentage, according to the report, "were the highest recorded since 1995, when the first national food security survey was conducted."
