State Dinner Menu Revealed; 50 Has His Taco & Gets to Eat It Too

Rapper Curtis James Jackson III, a.k.a. 50 Cent, settled a lawsuit against Taco Bell for using his name as part of a promotion without his permission. The unauthorized campaign involved a joke letter sent to 50 asking him to change his name to 79, 89, or 99 Cent to promote menu items under a dollar. [NY Post]

Two milk producers were executed in China for selling contaminated milk powder in connection with a food-safety scandal that killed six infants. More than 300,000 children were also sickened by the contaminated products.

Park Slope residents feel guilty about a recent discovery by the state Labor Department that 25 Slope restaurants underpaid their mostly immigrant workers as little as $2.75 per hour. Local favorites, such as Aunt Suzie's, Taqueria, and Bogota, were among the culprits.

Certain U.S. cities have started to limit the use of foam food trays. Portland, Oregon, passed a ban on them back in 1989, and last year Seattle voted to ban them. Non-profit Earth Resource Foundation is pushing for a statewide ban in California.

Marcus Samuelsson, the guest chef for the Obama administration's first state dinner, has announced that his menu will make use of arugula, pineapple sage, fresh dill, oregano, and thyme from the White House Garden.
