Zenkichi Celebrates Three Years, Eyes Manhattan Expansion

zenkichigardenblog.jpg
Zenkichi, the labyrinthine Japanese brasserie in Williamsburg, is getting ready to celebrate its three-year anniversary this month. And what better way to ring in a new year than to expand? Owner Shaul Margulies says he and wife Motoko Watanabe are "extremely close" to signing a lease on a space in Soho and are already aiming to drum up support from residents in the neighborhood.

In the meantime, they're throwing themselves a birthday bash with Kazuhiro Maegaki, head brewer and owner of Hiroshima brewery Kamoizumi, on November 18. Guests are invited to taste several sakes not yet available in the U.S., including one specifically brewed to be served warm.
