One Lucky Duck Has Brought Its Shockingly High Prices to the Chelsea Market

Last week, the folks at Pure Food & Wine opened the latest outpost of One Lucky Duck, their grab-n-go raw food shop, in the Chelsea Market. It sits next to Lucy's Whey and Jacques Torres, but even compared with its neighbor's somewhat rarefied prices, it is unbelievably bloody expensive.

The store carries a variety of crackers, cookies, puddings, salads, and eerily glowing juices. None of them have ever seen the wrong side of 118 degrees F, and all of them illustrate why the topic of raw food tends to incite rather extreme reactions among otherwise reasonable people. A packet of six thumbrint cookies will set you back $13 including tax, an average looking fruit and nut bar is $7, and the bags of "quackers" average $13 before tax. Based on the prices, it seems reasonable to assume that "one lucky duck" describes anyone who can actually afford to eat there.
