Health Department Proposes Rule Requiring Restaurants to Display Letter Grades After Sanitary Inspections

Picture 8.png
Taking a cue perhaps from Entertainment Weekly, the Board of Health has proposed a letter-grading system for restaurant sanitary inspections. The system would require restaurants to post their A,B, or C grades where customers can see them, making them more readily accessible than they are on the Health Department's somewhat labyrinthine website.

Restaurants that receive B or C grades would be subject to more frequent inspection than those receiving A's, but would not be required to post them immediately: they would be given a month to improve, and then reinspected.

The Board of Health will hold a public hearing on the proposed system on February 5, and will vote on the issue in March.
