NY Restaurateurs Begin to Mobilize to Raise Money for Haiti

A day after Haiti was struck by a catastrophic earthquake, some local chefs and restaurateurs are trying to mobilize to raise money for the stricken country.
Eater reports that Philippe Massoud, the chef-owner of Ilili, is proposing a Haitian benefit night on Sunday, Jan. 24, where restaurants will pledge to give 10 percent of their proceeds and five percent of server gratuities to Haitian charities. And on Wednesday, Jan. 20, Knife + Fork's chef, Damien Brassel, will donate 20 percent of every customer's bill, tip included, to Haitian relief efforts
And although it's after the fact, last night, Lolita Bar donated a dollar from each drink sold to Doctors Without Borders and the non-profit organization Konbit Pou Ayiti, which are two of the groups that anyone who wants to help can donate to, whether they're in a bar or restaurant or not.
