Table 8 Will Close, Scott Conant Takes Over Space
LA chef Govind Armstrong's adventure in New York was brief and unsuccessful. Table 8, in the Cooper Square Hotel, was almost inexplicably bad--inexplicable, because Armstrong's restaurants in LA have been greeted with mainly favorable reviews by extremely credible critics like Jonathan Gold. One suspects that Armstrong was not terribly invested in Table 8 New York: For the most part, the food was badly executed and expensive, with mayo glopped indiscriminately on everything. The only reason to go there was for the burger, which was pretty great. Armstrong officially pulled out of the restaurant in December, and now we're finally hearing the official word on plans for the space's future.
Inside Govind Armstrong's misbegotten Table 8
Scarpetta'sScott Conant will be taking over the restaurant, which closed today for the re-do and will re-open in several weeks. No word yet on the menu or the name of the Conant's new creation.
Meanwhile, the Cooper Square Hotel bars will remain open, and the hotel will continue to serve breakfast and room service.
