Last week, we ranked our 10 best East Village restaurants. Tomorrow, we'll wander a few blocks south to rank their Lower East Side counterparts.
Because the geographical boundaries of the Lower East Side are open to interpretation, particularly thanks to the more recent efforts of enterprising realtors, we're defining the neighborhood as south of Houston, east of the Bowery extending to the East River, and north of Canal Street. Although these boundaries include parts of Chinatown, we're abstaining from including Chinatown restaurants, as they deserve a list of their own.
As always, please feel free to nominate your own favorites, and if we neglect to mention any that you think are worthy, we'll add them in the Reader's Suggestions.
