Akhtar Nawab In at Richard Sandoval's Zengo
Florence Fabricant reveals that Akhtar Nawab of the now-defunct Elettaria (and, before that, Craftbar and E..U.) will be the chef de cuisine at Zengo, a new upscale Latin restaurant by Richard Sandoval set to open next month in the space formerly occupied by Wild Salmon.
Will Akhtar Nawab's magic translate?
Nawab's fusion-y take on Indian earned him praise at Elettaria (including from our own Sarah DiGregorio), but the concept also raised more than a few eyebrows. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the table at such a large restaurant group (Sandoval has restaurants in New York, Dubai, Mexico, D.C., Denver, and Vegas).
Zengo will also feature a Tequila Library of 400 blue agave-based spirits, including mezcals and sotols.
