Fraunces Tavern Joins List of Historic Restaurant Closures
Fraunces Tavern has been around since 1762. The Chamber of Commerce was formed there, and George Washington was a loyal patron. But almost 250 years of history is apparently no match for a crap economy: This Saturday, the restaurant will shut its doors, possibly for good.

Per Eater, the restaurant's manager sent out an e-mail to patrons informing them that the restaurant and tavern part of the building, which is also a museum, will close this Saturday. Poor business was blamed for the shutter. While we can't say we ever patronized the place for its food, the idea of all of the couples who now have to look elsewhere for an establishment to host their Colonial-themed weddings is a poignant one indeed.
