Street Vendors Rally to Get City to Give Vendor a (Pee) Break

Earlier this morning, the Street Vendor Project's Sean Basinski was joined by several dozen vendors and advocates outside the Department of Health's headquarters to protest the department's revocation of the license of peanut vendor Mohammed Shirajul Islam. Islam's license was recently revoked after he had to leave his cart unattended so that he could take a bathroom break. Roy Edroso, our esteemed colleague at our sister blog Runnin' Scared, attended the rally, and brought back a report, which can be found here. No word on whether or not the DOH will take pity on Islam, who has a tumor in his colon and is scheduled for emergency surgery next week, but hopefully it will remedy this bureaucratic unfairness as quickly as it did its badly-worded ban on street vendor seafood sales.
