Poor Tippers, Unite
Save the Deli's David Sax has penned an anti-tipping rant for the New York Times's Complaint Box, explaining in some detail why he refuses to pay more than a 15 percent gratuity. ("Oh, sure, I'm cheap. But not as cheap as your boss, apparently, who figures he can pay you the minimum wage of $4.65 for servers, and the customer will just pick up the rest of your living expenses.")
tiangotlost/flickr Cats and guilt are a deadly combination.
But Sax may want to be careful about where he dines. Down in North Carolina, a woman has gotten herself banned from a restaurant for allegedly being a bad tipper. She's gone and started a petition against the restaurant and hired a lawyer. Which is not quite the same thing as using a national newspaper to bitch and moan, but still somewhat effective in convincing everyone you're pretty damn cheap.
