A Taste of Mardi Gras
Now that the pink-and-red madness of Valentine's Day is over, it's time to focus on this month's most important celebration: Mardi Gras. Join Dale and Jill DeGroff (he of Rainbow Room bartending fame, she author of Lush Life: Portraits from the Bar) for an evening of Big Easy-themed libations. Dale will be shaking up dandy French 75s, while Jill signs copies of her book of caricatures, and perhaps manages to sketch a cocktailian of note or two in attendance.

For many carnivores, vegetarian food is a bore. But, when it comes to deliciously complex and spicy Indian food, even the staunchest of meat eaters forgets to miss the animal flesh. The restaurant is dedicating two weeks to herbivores with a special vegetarian menu featuring dishes from the North, South, East, and West of India, including various Daal (lentils), Karela Bhaji (salt-rubbed bitter gourd), and Aloo Kathal (spiced jackfruit and potatoes in coconut milk). Vegetable-infused breads and desserts will also abound.

Join food writer and historian John T. Edge for a discussion on how the Great Migration of Southern cooking transformed the culinary culture of New York. Jessica Harris, author of a forthcoming history of African-American foodways, and Ted Lee, co-author of The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook will be on the panel.
