Ed Brown's Eighty-One Is Eighty-Sixed
File under Big Ambitions, Bad Timing: The Post's Steve Cuozzo reports that Ed Brown's Eighty-One will close after dinner on April 4. The quietly opulent 110-seat restaurant opened on the ground floor of the Excelsior Hotel in February 2008, several months before the financial industry's ca-ca began to hit the fan. Brown told Cuozzo that the restaurant tried to change with the recession by offering a lower-priced menu and more "accessible" food, but ultimately couldn't sway people's perception that it was a special-occasion kind of place.
