Here's Some Guss' Weirdness to Mull Over
Someone e-mailed the Eater tipline with supposed news about Guss' Pickles. According to the tipster, Andrew Leibowitz, an heir to the United Pickle fortune who won ownership of the Guss' Pickles name in the 2007 settlement of a lawsuit between himself and Guss' proprietor Patricia Fairhurst, is opening another branch of Guss'. The new location, the unnamed source says, will be somewhere in the vicinity of Russ & Daughters and open before the summer. What's more, the source goes on to claim that Leibowitz and his father, Stephen, have ties to Anthony Mannone, a captain of the Bonanno crime family who was last month charged in a federal racketeering case. Whether or not any of this is actually true, we can thank the Eater tipster for briefly allowing us to feel like we're living in the subplot of one of Woody Allen's better movies.
