Akhtar Nawab Bids Farewell to Zengo
Less than a month after he was hired as Zengo's chef de cuisine, Akhtar Nawab has parted ways with the upscale Latin-Asian fusion restaurant. The pairing never did seem like the best fit (downtown chef set adrift in vast Midtown sea to play second-in-command to Chef Richard Sandoval), and early reviews were mixed, but still, it says something when Ryan Skeen looks like a model of fidelity by comparison. There are rumors that the chef will migrate back downtown to an unnamed Mexican eatery that sounds a lot like La Esquina; perhaps we're sentimentalists, but we'd rather envision a second coming of Elettaria.
