Brooklyn Beset by More Sandwiches and Burgers

Resistance is futile.
Here's yet more evidence that the hamburger and sandwich takeover is continuing apace throughout the five boroughs.

Lost City has discovered that the awkwardly-named Fultummy's is now serving a short sandwich menu in the former Piccolo Cafe space on Columbia Street in Red Hook, while a few blocks east on Smith Street, Brownstoner reports that the short-lived La Petite Provence is now JB's Burger.

La Petite Provence, which occupied the old Patois space, was opened by the owners of Provence en Boite, who apparently didn't have a great deal of success serving Nicoise cuisine to the Carroll Gardens crowd. Given that there are already numerous burgers to be found on Smith Street, it remains to be seen whether chef Jean-Jacques Bernat's strategy of ditching more formal dining for casual food with low production costs will pay off, or simply make him look like a lemming.

Brooks of Sheffield, meanwhile, has tried two of the four sandwiches available at Fultummy's and reports they are "very good." The owners are hoping to expand the brief menu soon; currently, they're distinguishing chicken cutlet and pork cutlet sandwiches by using "Japanese fruits" as an ingredient; which ones they're using isn't specified, though a Google search for "Japanese fruits" yields a photo of festively attired harajuku girls.
