Rockaway Taco Gets New Ingredients and a New Neighbor

On sunny days such as this one, our thoughts naturally turn away from fluorescent office lighting and towards the lovely beaches of Queens. So it's inspiring to hear that the folks behind Rockaway Taco are finding ever more ways to lure us to the A train: as Grub Street reports, Rockaway's chef, Andrew Field, has some big plans for his taco stand's Memorial Day weekend opening.

This summer, he's hoping to get his tortillas from Corona's Tortilleria Nixtamal, produce from seeds planted in the stand's rooftop garden, and custom-made sausages from the Meat Hook, which will also supply pork for Rockaway's al pastor specials. Field and his partner, David Selig, are also moving forward with plans for a coffee cart, which will serve brew from Jack's and sundry items like tamales and vegan granola bars.

And when it returns, Rockaway will have a new next door neighbor. Blooming Hills Farms' proprietor, Elizabeth Gilchrist, will be opening a market selling produce and some light prepared foods, as well as juices and smoothies. Plus, there'll be an Italian ice stand, courtesy of John DiCosmo. All of which is to say that a field trip is in order.
