CNN and Huffington Post Jump on the Foodie Bandwagon

One the heels of The New York Times announcing that both its popular Bitten blog written by Mark Bittman and Eric Asimov's The Pour would be swallowed up by the main food blog, Diner's Journal, two new media entities have announced their forays in the food world. Last spring, The Atlantic launched its Food Channel, Salon got its Food section last fall, and NBC New York debuted Feast earlier this year. Now, CNN and The Huffington post are getting in on the epidemic of eating-related content.

Eater reports that CNN is gearing up to launch Eatocracy, which will cover "all news related to food -- from recalls to health issues to culture." Kat Kinsman, a former editor at AOL's Slashfood, will head it up. A launch date has yet to be determined, but the thing is already actively Twittering and Flickring.

Meanwhile, HuffPost Food is already up and running, with an aggregate of original food coverage as well as links to other outlets' epicurean news. According to Mediabistro, the site will eventually run restaurant reviews, which are sure to be a boon for ad sales.
