Gramercy Park Braces for Hostile Tapas Invasion

The calm before the storm.
Despite staggering community opposition, Cold Miller has managed to secure a liquor license for the small wine and tapas bar he's planning to open at 38 Gramercy Park North. In a showing that would put any Community Board 3 meeting to shame, 150 people appeared at a Community Board 6 meeting in March to oppose Miller's application, citing fears of late-night shenanigans and traffic congestion and noise.

The location of Miller's planned restaurant was formerly a gift shop and hasn't been a dining destination since the '20s. Given that this is a neighborhood the requires membership just to sit on a park bench, the resistance was hardly surprising. What with that barbarian Danny Meyer down the block, Gramercy Park is clearly hurtling down a highway to hell. [New York Observer]
