La Esquina Shuttered by the Department of Buildings; Poses "Imminent Danger to Life or Public Safety"

Akhtar Nawab may be out of a job for awhile longer: citing "imminent danger to life or public safety," the Department of Buildings has shuttered La Esquina until, presumably, it no longer poses an imminent danger.

As Grub Street reports, the DOB issued an order to vacate earlier today, citing both the aforementioned "imminent danger" and "inadequate Egress" from its basement dining room. The basement's "wood combustible ceilings" seem to have been a problem too, though why they weren't a problem back when La Esquina first opened and was packed to the gills with revelers every night, who knows. In any case, the fate of the restaurant's sumptuous fish tacos is right now quite uncertain.
