Sam Sifton Weighs in on the Times Cease and Desist Letter to Hapless Times Restaurant

The Times restaurant's name and somewhat familiar font may have incurred the wrath of the lawyers for the New York Times, but it has at least one unlikely ally in Sam Sifton. The Pakistani restaurant, which sits across the street from the Times building and was originally known as the Kashmir Cafe, received a cease and desist letter from the Times' lawyers, according to Midtown Lunch. So they're changing the name. But while its lawyers are obviously not amused, the paper's restaurant critic seems to be -- he's tweeted his support, though his choice of words suggests he won't be bestowing any stars upon the place anytime soon.
