The Epicurean Society of the Senses Brings Supper clubs -- and a Prom! -- to a Williamsburg School

Supper clubs and other similarly underground affairs have carved out a sort of gastronomic orbit of their own lately -- and now you'll have the chance to find many of them under one roof.

Brian Quinn, co-founder of the Noble Rot "traveling wine saloon," and Adam Aleksander, an event designer known for over-the-top shindigs for spots like Macao Trading Co., are launching something they call "the Epicurean Society of the Senses," which will endeavor to gather together the duo's supper-club contacts for a "dining and learning experience," Aleksander explains.

Their monthly series of seminars, "the Academy," will round up, in Aleksander's words, "food purveyors, supper clubs, and industry mavens ... the cocktail clubs and the wine saloons" to give 25-minute lessons on everything from party-hosting to molecular gastronomy in the classrooms of a defunct Williamsburg school (Aleksander advises that only ticketholders will learn the exact location). Guests will learn, eat, and drink as they go, and each session of the Academy will wrap up with a party in the school's gym. Details and ticketing for the first Academy on June 19 are not quite nailed down yet, but keep your eye on this space for further info.

If your appetite is now whetted, Quinn and Aleksander are holding a kickoff that's less pedagogy and more party on May 22 at the school. The dinner-and-dance event will be styled as a 1950s prom, and guests are expected to dress accordingly -- or risk detention slips, Aleksander warns. Nick Suarez and Theo Peck of the Food Experiments are onboard to cook up a "cafeteria-themed" meal, and the $75 ticket price includes the four-course dinner, cocktails by mixologist Cervantes of Little Branch, and dancing to a live doo-wop band.
