Thistle Hill Tavern in South Slope, Brooklyn

• Pros: Overall quality of food was decent, nice atmosphere. Fries were delicious. Great desserts. In the Middle: The specialty mimosas were almost entirely champagne, despite promises of strawberry rhubarb and blood orange. Cons: Everything was overcooked. Requested medium, got well done on both the lamb sandwich and burger (my girlfriend and I shared.) The homemade ketchup tasted like cold Chef Boyardee. Then when requesting traditional ketchup, I was first given the cockeye, then later scolded when they brought it out and was told that what we were given originally "is ketchup," to which I responded "I figured that out, thanks." There's nothing more annoying when some tries to justify their shitty food by trying to making you feel unsophisticated. The service, continuing, was awful. Waited about 20 minutes for my dessert. The hostess/half waitress was having her shift meal while he cohort bullshitted at the bar. I got up to go to the bathroom so I could peak into the kitchen and saw the desserts sitting on the counter, completely finished. I got out of the bathroom, sat down, waited another minute or two and then the desserts were brought out and was given an "apology for the delay." I was really excited about this place, but the execution of the experience and service was so bad I wouldn't go back.
