• Thanks Kim. The Fujianese restaurants have several untranslated dishes on the menu. I guess that Buddha is one of the casseroles in a red sauce, because the serving is elaborate including a flame under the dish.

• A take out shop on Roosevelt Ave. advertised "Fungus Drink" that was bland. "Strange Taste" means something. There is a Manhattan restaurant called "Strange Taste Cuisine". I wish I knew the Chinese characters for the Fujianese specialty: Buddha jumped over the wall. The Taiwanese stall Temple Snacks was called Temple Snakes on a printed menu.

• seriously, chinese restaurants need to start using pinying the way italian places do.

• I tell my Chinese waitress girlfriend I want No. 69 and she replied, "You mean the pork with snow peas?"

• It's basically a direct translation (a little literal) from the dishes' Chinese titles. The English names really don't do the food any justice as there's a story behind every dish.

• I like crispy colorectal as much as the next guy, but 15 bucks seems a bit steep.
