Colombian Bread Pudding at Cafe Colombia Bakery

If you have ever thought to yourself, "I wish this bread pudding was made with condensed milk and a dash of sherry and tasted like a cross between flan and pumpkin pie," then Colombian pudin de pan is for you.

Cafe Colombia Bakery is a small place on Greenpoint Avenue in Queens. It bakes empanadas, cheese bread, and various sweet pastries and breads. But the most enticing item of all is the bread pudding, cut into thick golden slices and crowned with a dark, shiny layer of caramel. At $2, it's easily enough for two, since it's so incredibly rich -- creamy, dense, studded with raisins, and fragrant with cinnamon and sherry.
