Tourtière on the Horizon

The mighty, meaty tourtière.

Having already bestowed poutine and Montreal bagels upon us, New York's French-Canadian expat population is about to bless us with an arguably even greater gift: tourtière.

According to Tasting Table, Mile End will be introducing the traditional Quebecois meat pie in the coming weeks as part of its expanded menu, courtesy of the deli's new smoker.

And over in Queens, M. Wells, the soon-to-open diner from husband-and-wife team Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis, will also have tourtière on its menu. Last year, Dufour and Obraitis sold the meat pies during the holidays; judging by the popularity they enjoyed, their ongoing availability at the restaurant will inspire more than a few spontaneous vacations across the East River.
