What's Happening This Week: Harvest Menu and Austrian Wine
As many of you know, our weekly dining and drinking newsletter features all the coolest epicurean events in the city. Sign up for it here!
First Anniversary Week
The East Village fresh pasta house is celebrating the big one with a week of special menus and wine-pairing dinners. Throughout the week, a $35 four-course menu with optional wine pairing for an additional $25 will feature such dishes as agnolotti with rabbit sausage and orecchiette wtih lamb ragu, as well as wines from Shaw Vineyard and Damiani Wine Cellars. The week ends with a $78 Italian Magnum dinner on June 26 featuring big bottles from Italy's Valle d'Aosta.
Celebrate summer produce this week with a special menu sourced from Guy Jones of Blooming Hill Farm in Hudson Valley. Jones will be at the restaurant tonight to meet diners and talk sustainable farming. The $75 five-course tasting menu features freshly picked herbs, vegetables, and strawberries from the farm. Dishes like livers of wild striped bass, pork shoulder and belly, and crispy anise hyssop pastry cream will be paired with wines selected by sommelier Aaron Von Rock for $135 per person.
Austrian Wine Pairing Dinner
Seäsonal Restaurant & Weinbar
Join Austrian wine importer Terry Theise for a $125 six-course tasting menu paired with a selection of Grüner Veltiner, Riesling, and Sekt. Spirits maker Hans Reisetbauer will also be on hand, pouring his schnapps at the end of the meal, including a "surprise schnapps" that is making its American debut. Chef-owners Wolfgang Ban and Eduard Frauneder will serve such, ahem, seasonal dishes as pork belly with cauliflower, chanterelle, and English pea, and walleye pike, nettles, and horseradish.
