Gutted deli today, French Art Deco coffeehouse tomorrow.
Having made their mark on Prospect Heights with full eggs, strawberry toast, and sheep station pie, the Australian owners of Milk Bar are planning to open Cafe Madeline in Ditmas Park.

Ditmas Park Blog brings word that Alexander Hall and Sabrina Godfrey have signed the lease on an old deli at 1603 Cortelyou Road. They're planning to renovate the place into a "French Art Deco coffeehouse" serving pour-over, single-origin coffee and a range of baked goods. Commenters have already taken issue with the shop's planned opening time of 10 a.m. -- what of the caffeine needs of early-morning commuters? -- but Hall and Godfrey have a while to sort that out: They're planning to open in September.

In the meantime, the café already has a Facebook page chronicling its progress; as of July 1, the owners were hunting for "reclaimed wood."
