Elliott Erwitt Photo Show Officially Opens Today at Chelsea Market

The work of America's grand old man of point-and-shoot photography, Elliott Erwitt, is currently being represented by an excellent new show at Chelsea Market.

Tacked up all over the former complex of Nabisco factories in Chelsea -- turned popular food market cum food court -- the show features photos made over the last 30 years during frequent trips to Italy. Many of the pictures involve food, as you might expect from an Italian show, and the worried walls of the complex only add to the charm of the photos.

Furthermore, most of the photographs are urban in nature, being shot mainly in Rome, Florence, and Milan, where Erwitt was presumably on assignment. Following are a few more of my snaps of his work, in situ. The show, which officially opened today and features more than 40 black-and-white photos, will run through September 15.
