Zenkichi Abandons Bowery, Renews Vows With Williamsburg

Zenkichi's original, heavily wooded Williamsburg location.
Having been thwarted by the folks at Community Board 2, the owner of Williamsburg's Zenkichi has abandoned plans to open a branch of his Japanese restaurant at 150 Bowery.

Zagat Buzz reports that Zenkichi's Shaul Margulies has bid farewell to Lower Manhattan and is returning to the greener pastures of the 11211 ZIP code. But while he may be down, he's not out: Margulies is now planning to open an oyster and sake bar next to his original restaurant -- which sounds a bit more manageable than the two-level, 12,000-square-foot behemoth he'd been negotiating on the Bowery.
