Open & Closed: Say Hello to Whiskey Brooklyn, Goodbye to Mercat Negre

Restaurants and bars, they come and they go. Here are a few making their debuts and bowing out this week.

Rhong Tiam in the East Village has been closed now for nearly three weeks for a private party. Looks like it probably won't reopen.

Mercat Negre in Williamsburg will close September 5 and reopen a week later with a new name and concept. A new Manhattan outpost may be on the way.

Rino Cerante is the fourth Danny Omari restaurant on MacDougal to close this year. Super Hotdog, Red Basket, and Food Fight also didn't make it.

The team behind Whiskey Town and Whiskey Tavern bring you Whiskey Brooklyn, a brown-liquor-driven bar with a 50-plus-strong international collection.

The lower level of the multistory Villa Pacri has opened. Tzigan is an ornately decorated lounge that offers $500-a-month bottle storage.

XIX is another new swanky lounge opening in the basement of Travertine, done up in red leather couches and etched marble.

South Slope's Korzo gets an East Village outpost in Korzo Haus, which will specialize in Hungarian and Slovakian favorites like goulash, lángoš, and halušky. [Time Out]
