Last week, news broke that Williamsburg's Zenkichi was giving up on its plans to expand to Manhattan, and instead opening a new sake and oyster bar next door to the original location. Co-owner Shaul Margulies now reveals a few more details on the new space.

"The bar will be called Akariba, which means something along the lines of 'the glow of a lantern in the dark,'" he says. "The space is cozy and intimate. This will be a sanctuary in the middle of Williamsburg for unwinding in a relaxed, jazzy atmosphere."

The design and menu will be completely different from the adjacent Zenkichi, he adds, both conceived by Margulies' wife and partner, Motoko Watanabe. Cocktails by Japanese mixologist Kenji Hirohara will round out the drinks list. A soft opening is expected in a few weeks.
