Bon Appétit Is Moving to New York, Barbara Fairchild Is Moving On
Here's a double whammy: Bon Appétit is moving itself from the wilds of Los Angeles to the
Death Star Condé Nast headquarters in New York. And it is doing so without Barbara Fairchild, its longtime editor-in-chief.
The folks at Condé HQ have issued a press release announcing the move, which will take place "later this year." Fairchild will oversee the magazine's transition to New York, after which she will be replaced by a new editor-in-chief. Unsurprisingly, no reason is given for her departure or plans; she will be leaving "to pursue other opportunities."
The release, which follows below, provides few details, but make of it what you will. Also, pray to the gods of good taste that the magazine's new home won't be in Gourmet's old offices.
NEW YORK, NY, September 20, 2010 --Condé Nast will relocate the editorial headquarters of Bon Appétit magazine from California to New York later this year, announced Charles H. Townsend, Chief Executive Officer of Condé Nast.
After 32 years at Bon Appétit -- serving the last 10 years as Editor-in-Chief -- Barbara Fairchild will be leaving the magazine to pursue other opportunities, including future projects for Condé Nast. She will continue in her current role through the magazine's transition to New York, at which time a new Editor-in-Chief will be named.
"The move of Bon Appétit's editorial headquarters to New York is part of the company's continuing efforts to strategically align our brands for future growth and to enhance efficiencies and coordination by consolidating our assets," said Mr. Townsend.
The award-winning Bon Appétit is the most affluent food and epicurean title and delivers a vital readership of nearly 8 million culinary enthusiasts. The magazine has a rate base of 1.5 million.
