On the eighth floor, chefly nirvana.
De Gustibus has been holding cooking classes on the eighth floor of Macy's since 1980, providing us hapless plebes with the opportunity to learn firsthand from the likes of Mario Batali, Jacques Pépin, Madhur Jaffrey, Sara Jenkins, Edna Lewis, and Alfred Portale, to name but a very, very few.

Next Wednesday, the cooking school -- which was founded by Arlene Feltman Sailhac and has hosted more than 900 chefs, restaurateurs, wine experts, and cookbook writers -- begins its 30th season. The school is celebrating with a lineup that will include Patti Jackson, Cat Cora, Bruce and Eric Bromberg, Joan Nathan, and Nick Anderer. More information about class registration can be found here; for any advance planners out there, the last class of the year, on December 15, will be taught by Marcus Samuelsson.
