Dish No. 40: Tabla Frankie Cart's Roasted Vegetable Frankie

Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, Fork in the Road's handy list of some of our favorite dishes -- old standbys and new finds alike -- compiled daily.

Today's pick: Roasted vegetable frankie ($8) at the Tabla Frankie Cart (11 Madison Avenue, 212-889-0667).

Though the Shake Shack and its predictably endless lines may be synonymous with Madison Square Park eating, Tabla's Frankie Cart provides another excellent option for al fresco dining. The cart isn't so much a cart as a menu posted on the host lectern in front of Tabla's front door: You place your order, and are presented a few minutes later with your frankie, which is more or less a Mumbai burrito.

There are always three frankies available on the menu; the vegetable variety contains loads of broccoli, onions, zuccchini, green beans, and fennel. They're roasted until caramelized and tender, and folded into a soft, chewy roti, lubricated with some tomato chutney, and kicked into high gear by fresh ginger and cilantro. Although it's sadly no longer served with the bhel puri that Sarah enjoyed, it makes for a very tasty and filling lunch -- and on the off chance you're still hungry afterward, you can always go stand in line for a shake.
