Dish No. 55: Tofah e Zameen at Tamarind Tribeca
Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, Fork in the Road's handy list of some of our favorite dishes -- old standbys and new finds alike -- compiled daily.
Today's pick: Tofah e zameen ($10) at Tamarind Tribeca (99 Hudson Street, 212-775-9000).
These Pakistani-style yam kabobs are among our favorite dishes that emerge from the tandoor at the wonderful new Tamarind Tribeca. The orange tubers are mashed with a rich mix of paneer, potatoes, red chiles, and aromatic cardamom to form the tadpole-shaped snacks. Then they're blistered in the glowing tandoor and served with an incendiary chutney on the side.
The plate proves yet again how opposite flavors can strike the most delicious balance -- sweet, spicy, and salty all playing together nicely. The interiors are steamy and soft, the exteriors crisp.
